“Blues Is The Colour”- Everything You Need To Know About Chelsea’s Famous Anthem

Chelsea Football Club is an English club founded on March 10th 1905 by an English business guru Gus Mears, who had earlier purchased the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium with the initial idea of renting out the facility to Fulham FC before coming up with an idea to install a new club. The team play its professional football at the top of  English football club competition- The English Premier League.

Chelsea Football Club

Blue Is the Colour is a song used mostly by Chelsea Football Club. The anthem was first performed by the squad as released in 1972, an event that happens to clash with the club’s unsuccessful league appearance in the League Cup final of that year against the English football side, Stoke City. The anthem has now become one of the famous English football songs of this era.

The song is usually heard during Chelsea’s home game in league football, and in all competitions. The song has also been recomposed by various football teams in football to match the club’s culture and tradition.

The song was also used during a campaign in the 1979 general election. The song used was a parody of the London’s club version, with the words changed to fit the campaign slogan.

Apart from this, Chelsea fans also have other chants and anthems which are used during football matches involving the club. Songs like: “Carefree” (to the tune of “Lord of the Dance”, whose lyrics were probably written by supporter Mick Greenaway),

“Ten Men Went to Mow”, “We All Follow the Chelsea” (to the tune of “Land of Hope and Glory”),
“Zigga Zagga”
Popular Fanchants include, “Super Chelsea”, “Super Frank” (dedicated to all time leading goal scorer Frank Lampard),
“We love you Chelsea” and “Come on Chelsea”.

LYRICS

Blue is the colour, football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
‘Cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name
Here at the Bridge whether rain or fine
We can shine all the time
Home or away, come and see us play
You’re welcome any day
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
‘Cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name
Come to the Shed and we’ll welcome you
Wear your blue and see us through
Sing loud and clear until the game is done
Sing Chelsea everyone
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
‘Cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
‘Cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name
